Mukhtar Receives Minister of the Year Award

The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, was among Fifteen distinguished Nigerians honoured at the 9th Annual Daily Asset Awards and Lecture 2026, held on Thursday, 5th February, 2026.

The award ceremony, organised by Daily Asset Newspapers Limited, recognised outstanding individuals for excellence, leadership and impactful contributions to national development across various sectors.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Host and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Daily Asset Newspapers Limited and Proprietor of Asset Television, Dr. Cletus Akwaya, said the award was conferred on the Minister in recognition of his pioneering initiatives as the pioneer Minister of Livestock Development, his commitment to promoting peace, and his drive towards modernising animal husbandry practices in Nigeria.

Responding, Mukhtar expressed gratitude to the organisers for the honour and dedicated the award to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, as well as to the management and staff of the Ministry for their dedication and teamwork. 

The Minister who was represented by the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, Dr. Samuel Anzaku, reaffirmed his commitment to implementing reforms that would reposition the livestock sector as a key driver of food security, employment and economic growth, while fostering peaceful coexistence among stakeholders across the livestock value chain.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum and Chairman of the occasion, Chief Mamma Mike Osuman, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award, used the platform to call on Nigerians to remain patriotic, law-abiding and civically responsible, especially as the nation approaches another election cycle. 

He urged citizens to conduct themselves peacefully and reject criminality in all its forms, including kidnapping, terrorism, bribery and other vices, in the interest of national stability.

The event was attended by the representative of the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Fintiri, serving legislators, Directors of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), Prof. Herbert Udo, the National Coordinator of L-PRES, Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, the National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Baba Othman Ngelzarma,  and other distinguished personalities.
